Depression is a feeling that many people struggle with at some point in their lives and does not discriminate. It can affect everyone no matter their age, race, or gender and can be hard to fight at times. Some of the most common ways that people fight this depression is by seeing their physician and being put on an anti-depressant such as Zoloft or Citalopram. For many this works but for others it might not due to either not liking the thought of being on pharmaceutical medicines or just having a natural resistance to them.
It is because of that people have found alternate ways to combat the overwhelming feelings that come along with depression. One of the more popular alternatives to fighting depression is exercise due to the release of endorphins and norepinephrine from the physical exertion. These natural chemicals are responsible for boosting our immune systems and make us feel good by reducing our perceptions on pain. Another is increasing your intake of magnesium by eating foods rich in this mineral such as; nuts of all kinds, beans, leafy greens, and whole grains. One of the greens that can help is an herb called ginko biloba because it is known for helping boost serotonin levels much like prescription meds that doctors use. Through guided meditation and image therapy is also a popular way to reduce depression do to being separated from stress and other triggers by finding a quiet place to relax and focus on deep breathing exercises.
To conclude, by simply changing some of the foods that you eat, adding minerals and vitamins, exercising thirty to sixty minutes a day, and taking some quiet time to yourself to just breathe and to forget about the stress around you, you can fight the symptoms of depression without taking pills.
